Big Ben Keeps Time. Do You?

Big Ben has been keeping London on time since 1859—unwavering, precise, and immune to distractions (unlike the rest of us drowning in emails, notifications, and back-to-back meetings). If only our calendars ran as smoothly as that iconic clock tower.

We’re already a third of the way through Q1…tick tock, tick tock.

It’s time for a Q1 check-in: How are your New Year’s goals coming along? Are they powering forward, or are they buried under a pile of meetings, Slack messages, and “quick questions” that never seem to end? If it’s the latter, you’re not alone.

Why is it so hard to stick to our plans? Here’s what’s getting in the way:
🔹 Decision fatigue—Too many choices = defaulting to what’s easy, not what’s important. When we get overwhelmed, we revert back to what we know—the path of least resistance.
When our mental energy is drained, we gravitate toward the path of least resistance (hello, checking emails instead of working on that big project).
🔹 Overcommitment—Ambitious goals meet an already jam-packed calendar.
On January 1st, those resolutions looked pretty on paper. By February, reality hit: There are still only 24 hours in a day. Were they realistic?
🔹 Distraction overload—A study from Harvard Business Review found the average professional gets interrupted every three minutes.
If you’ve ever struggled to get through a single task without an interruption, you’re not imagining it. Focus is under attack. In this case, it’s good to figure out how to not be like the average.

What do you do now?
Audit your time—Are you running your schedule or is it running you?
If you constantly feel behind, it’s time for a reality check. Track where your time is actually going and adjust accordingly.
Declutter your focus—Every "yes" means a "no" to something else. Choose wisely. Learning how to use “yes” and “no” effectively can be your superpowers. Really.
Your time is your most valuable resource—treat it like it.
Start small, but start now—Incremental progress beats abandoned goals every time. All is not lost. Start now!
You don’t need a complete overhaul. Just pick one thing you can refocus on this week and commit to it.

Your Q1 goals aren’t dead—they’re just buried under the noise. Time to dig them out and get back on track.

So, what’s your first step towards getting back on track??
